5 Reasons why you need to keep learning

Remember when you were in school and you HAD TO study. You just had to, because you knew there was an exam at the end of the semester and you did not want to fail. So you studied, you joined study group, you bought text books, you stayed up all night. At a point the reason for your studying was not to learn but just to pass the exams. This is why a lot of people abandon knowledge as soon and they are done with exams. Some adults have developed such terrible relationship with learning that they avoid it. You’ll find people who are professionals who have not updated their knowledge, some of them have not improved themselves by learning.

I was one of those people who loved school. I enjoyed learning. I still enjoy learning. But for some people studying ended as soon as they graduated. I want to encourage you to be a lifelong student and to seek knowledge and practice what you’ve learned. You’ll watch your life change for the better when you’re constantly learning, here are five reasons why you should:

1: You’ll learn new things: There is a vast wealth of things you do not know. Trust me, I am astounded by the discoveries I make as I continue to learn. Even the things you know are begin challenged today because of new information. Once upon a time we though the drug Thalidomide was good for pregnant women to treat nausea, we later research found that it was teratogenic and left the new born babies with flipper like limbs. Also new fields are being discovered (we now have driver-less cars as courses), new methods (You can start a business using the lean start up methodology), new facts that would change the way we do things are being uncovered. So open yourself to learning.

2: You’ll grow: Knowledge is powerful, learning is a tool that changes people. And change is a good thing if you’re making an improvement. There is no such thing as remaining in the same point, if you do, you’ll become obsolete. It is said that a book can transform a person’s life. It has happened to me so many times. So, if you’re seeking growth, epiphany or transformation you might find it as you learn.

3: Your brain will become stronger: This is scientific, just the same way you need to exercise your body, you need to exercise your brain. As you use certain parts of your brain it gets stronger, you build more pathways and connections to feed the part of the brain that is being used. And when you don’t use it, the pathways formed degenerate. So, keep learning, you’ll find improved memory, improved skills, improved coping skills etc.

4: You’ll add value to what you do: Whatever it is that you do, learning will help you become better at it. You’ll add value to what you do. Imagine a world where your Pharmacist, doctors or nurse are constantly becoming better in the way they practice, we’ll see a steady growth in our healthcare system because we’ll keep improving. Even for us here at keek’s we have seen remarkable improvement in our alumni that have taken one of our courses.

5: You’ll find new ideas and solution: Learning brings you in contact with information passed from one person’s life or work or experience or research. Learning helps you see thing differently because you are exposed to someone else’s life and work and experience and research. This may help you find new ideas and solution, because it transports you to a place where you can see things through a new dimension.

Now go pick a book, register for a course a seminar or do some research of you own. Just go learn stuff.
