Discover how to make eating healthy easier and more practical for you with these life hacks.
I was on a radio show this week talking about wellness. Then I was asked to give my tips for eating healthy for people that have been struggling with imbibing healthy eating habits. After I was done with the show, the response was so amazing that I decided to share it on our website for the people that missed it. So, here are my top 5 hacks for eating healthy, and trust me, they are a little bit unconventional, but they work.
1: Take more pictures of your food. Yup, you read that right. I’m not saying that you should take pictures and share on social media, unless that’s what you want to do of course. But taking pictures of your meal helps you asses it better, you get to analyse what you’ve been eating as well as the portion and variety you put on your plate and into your body. and if you do decide to get your social media followers and friends involved to help you with some accountability, it’s completely your choice.
2: Ensure that your plate has at least five colours on it. This will challenge you to eat your rainbow. I’ve already talked about how the colour of your food indicate the phytonutrients they contain in a previous post. This way you get to constantly feed yourself with a variety of disease fighting and health promoting goodness.
3: Make sure that 50% of the food item on your plate are still living. That means they should be fresh, raw or very very lightly cooked. This way you get to enjoy all the enzymes and nutrient stored in them. So, take a good look at your plate.
4: Eat with a smaller plate. I know you’ve heard this before, so now, you definitely need to start doing it. Eating with a smaller sized plate helps you to dish out smaller portions and also it helps your brain feel like you are eating a full plate of food. So, ditch the big plates for smaller ones.
5: Cook 80% of what you eat. When you cook you get to control what goes into your meal, and also you enjoy the freedom to experiment. Plus, people that cook their own meals tend to eat less.
