I am going to try to get to the point as quickly and easily as possible. Yes, you can lose that belly fat, and yes you can get rid of it forever. But what is the secret to making this happen? I am going to answer some of the questions you have about this topic, and when I am done you will have an “aha” moment when you realise how simple it really is to lose that belly fat.
Can I lose belly fat by doing sit ups?
Not quite. Doing sit ups and abdominal exercises exclusively with the aim of shedding belly fat may leave you with poor results. As you engage in those crunches, sit ups etc., you are actually toning and strengthening your abdominal muscles, but it’s not going to do you much good if you have a huge layer of fat covering it, even if you do a thousand a day. Abdominal exercises do not put enough calorie demand on your body to help you shed that weigh.
What about slimming tea and belly fat burning teas?
These won’t do the trick either. The truth about these teas is that they actually help flush out a lot of backed up food in your digestive tract. This may give you the feeling of being slimmer, but it will not last long. Some of these teas even cause diarrhoea as their way of making people lose weight. Disrupting your digestive process and risking your health for a flat tummy is not advisable. Some of these teas claim to boost your metabolism, and there is some truth to this, but the boost in your metabolism is temporary.
What about slimming belts and wraps?
Slimming belts and wraps work by pulling water out of your body, so yeah, you may feel slimmer for a day or two, but you would put on that weight back. Besides, your aim should be to lose fat not water or muscle.
What if I stop eating late at night?
There is a lot of misconception about eating late at night. While I personally do not like eating latte at night because I do not like the heavy feeling, eating late at night has not been shown to increase your ability to add weight, as long as you are controlling your portions and making healthy choices. However a lot of people benefit from giving their digestive system a longer break by discontinuing eating earlier. What I mean is, if you stop all your eating at 6pm and then have breakfast at 8am, you have given your digestive tract 14hours break, this is a form of intermittent fasting which has been shown to have numerous benefits. But it may not give you the flat abs you are seeking.
So what are the secrets to losing belly fat? Well, here they are:
- There is no quick fix.
- You need to adopt a workout routine that combines cardiovascular training with strength training and flexibility training.
- You need to eat healthier: Less processed foods, more naturally and nutrient dense foods.
- You need to control your portions.
- You need to program your mind for the goal you are trying to achieve
- You need to accept that it would be a lifelong process.
- You need to create an accountability system that tracks your progress and keeps you motivated.
I know you’re probably thinking, “I thought you were going to give me a magic bullet or something”. I’m sorry to burst your bubble.
But even you must accept that everything you have been doing till now has not been working, or else you would not be reading this right now.
But I want to believe that the fact that you read this to the ending could mean that you may be ready to take a step to living healthy forever and achieving that flat belly you want.
